Report: Arsenal now genuinely interested in signing ‘unbelievable’ Manchester City player in January

Arsenal are reportedly genuinely interested in signing Manchester City outcast Kalvin Phillips in January.

According to TeamTalk, the England international is one of four midfielders the Gunners are considering in the winter window, with Mikel Arteta keen to add in the department.

Injury to Thomas Partey has left Arsenal short in the position for the entire season, with new signing Kai Havertz yet to really hit the heights some expected the German to hit in a new role under Arteta.

As a result, signings are on the agenda for Arsenal in January, with Phillips now an option as the 27-year-old looks set to leave the Etihad Stadium just one year after joining the club.

Lauded by former Leeds United teammate Jack Harrison as ‘unbelievable’, Phillips has been linked with numerous clubs in recent weeks from Tottenham to Newcastle United to even Liverpool.

And Arsenal are now in the mix for Phillips, with the Emirates Stadium a likely destination for the midfielder given Arteta’s recent raids for City for the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Phillips’ future is going to be one of the biggest storylines of the January transfer window, and for the England international himself, a move to Arsenal could be a dream transfer.

The north London side are gunning for the title and are in need of a pure defensive midfielder, something Phillips can provide and then some for Arteta’s aspiring club.

Moreover, Arsenal’s push to become more English-centric will be alluring for Phillips, who will want a transfer in January purely to book his place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024.

Whilst competition is fierce, Arsenal have the reputation and the finances to get a transfer done, and Phillips might be keen a move south the English capital in the January market.
