Report: Arsenal plotting swoop for £60m star Ancelotti backed to become 'one of the best strikers' in Europe

Arsenal have been linked with Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the past and speculation is starting to do the rounds again ahead of the January transfer window.

According to TEAMtalk, the Gunners have put the Toffees striker back in their shortlist as they look to bolster their attacking ranks in the New Year.

Arsenal have had long-term interest in Calvert-Lewin and now have him back on the watchlist as he returns to form, claimed the report.

As well as the Gunners, Premier League rivals Newcastle United are reportedly also in pursuit of the 26-year-old forward.

Calvert-Lewin is heading into the last 18 months of his contract at Everton. With the club currently struggling and having been deducted 10 points, his future at Goodison remains to be seen.

Injuries have plagued the striker, but he has managed seven starts in the Premier League this season. He has four goals and one assist from 11 outings in all competitions.

Despite Calvert-Lewin’s return to fitness and form, and the ensuing interest from the likes of Arsenal, Everton will fight to hold on to the player, added the report.

Arsenal target Dominic Calvert-Lewin a ‘very important’ player
Great strikers are difficult to sign in the summer window, never mind the January window, when clubs will understandably not want to lose their main sources of goals mid-season.

However, with Everton languishing in the lower reaches of the Premier League, the likes of Arsenal will surely look to apply pressure and perhaps turn the player’s head.Admittedly, the Gunners will be mindful of Calvert-Lewin’s injury record. Considering Arsenal have suffered in the past from injuries to key players, this will likely figure in their dealings.

If Calvert-Lewin can stay fit and return to form, then the Gunners would be getting a top talent.

Carlo Ancelotti, one of the best managers in the world, is a huge fan of Calvert-Lewin.

“Dominic is a very important player for us and for the future of Everton,” the Italian told the club website after the player signed a new contract in March 2020.

“He is a player with a lot of quality.

“Dominic has all the attributes to become one of the best strikers in England and in Europe.

“He is fast, has good skills, is strong in the air and works extremely hard for the team.

“He also has a fantastic mentality and his desire to improve has impressed me ever since I came to the club.”

In the summer of 2022, Everton reportedly placed a £60million price tag on Calvert-Lewin.

However, you have to wonder now whether they’ll demand anywhere near as much, considering their situation and the player’s contract having around 18 months to run.
