Arsenal and Chelsea handed Kylian Mbappe transfer boost amid major update

Both Arsenal and Chelsea have been handed a boost in their respective hopes of signing Paris Saint Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe. The French international made no secret of his desire to leave the Parc des Princes during the summer transfer window, turning down fresh contract proposals from the Ligue 1 champions.
That has led to plenty of speculation regarding his next club, with Real Madrid favourites to land the prolific attacker. However, a Premier League move has also been mooted.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been linked with Mbappe, although transfer guru Florian Plettenberg has now reported that the Reds are not targeting the 24-year-old. Writing on X, Plettenberg said: “Been told that Liverpool is NOT pushing for Kylian #Mbappé.

“His transfer in summer 2024 ist not an issue at this stage. #LFC.

“#PSG, still totally relaxed as they are financially secured (contractually) for his possible departure. Real Madrid is still the most realistic destination for him, either next year or the year after.”

Of course, the Bernabeu seems to be the most realistic landing spot for Mbappe at this stage but Arsenal and Chelsea will both be encouraged that they have one less club to worry about in the battle to sign the Frenchman. The Gunners tried to sign the then-talented wonderkid back in 2017 during his time with Monaco, before the player opted to head to PSG instead.

“Yes, I met with Arsene Wenger, who is a great coach," the prolific forward told the Telegraph six years ago. “He has a great reputation here in France, he's well-respected and knows how to develop young players.

“This was a real option for me. But, of course, Paris Saint-Germain was the main option.”
