The striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League ahead of the January transfer window. Both Chelsea and Arsenal are understood to be keen on signing a new No.9 next month ahead of a vital second half of the 2023/24 season.
football.london understands the Blues wanted to sign Osimhen in the summer, but Napoli were determined to hold onto their star man. The Gunners have been touted as the likeliest move for Osimhen with Mikel Arteta's side competing for the Premier League title and UEFA Champions League.
However, their chances of signing Osimhen in the near future could be squashed with the Nigeria international now on the verge of renewing his contract in Italy. According to De Laurentiis, the striker will commit his future to the Scudetto holders, putting an end to ongoing speculation.
Speaking at an event in Naples, the Napoli club president said: "With Osimhen, we are about to sign the contract that was pending this summer."
Osimhen's current contract expires in 2025 and negotiations over an extension took place last summer. However, the deal was never signed after a "change of mood" by the striker.
Reports from Italy (via the Standard) suggest the new contract will contain a release clause just under £130million, though when that clause will become active is unknown. Once the contract is confirmed, it would all but put an end to both Chelsea and Arsenal's pursuits of the striker.
De Laurentiis also dismissed talk of a new contract for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who has also been linked with the Blues. The Georgia international impressed in Napoli's title winning season last term and is wanted by the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid
