Arsenal injury news and return dates ahead of West Ham clash amid Partey update

Arsenal came through an intense test against Liverpool at Anfield to maintain their position as Premier League leaders. The Gunners drew 1-1 against the Reds and will face West Ham at the Emirates Stadium in their next Premier League fixture after Christmas.

Kai Havertz will miss that game after picking up his fifth booking of the season in the draw against Liverpool. However, Mikel Arteta will have the likes of Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny available for selection once again after both players were included in the matchday squad at Anfield on Saturday evening.

Thomas Partey is closing in on a return to action but not expected to feature in the squad until January. With that said, football.london has taken a look at all the injury news from Emirates Stadium ahead of West Ham.

Jorginho
Jorginho was absent from the matchday squad on Sunday as Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League table with a win against Brighton. The Italian midfielder was ruled out due to a foot injury but looks likely to stake a claim for his place on Merseyside this weekend.

Following the win against Brighton, when asked for an update on his injury, the Italian midfielder told football.london: "Getting better, getting better." And that was proven correct with Jorginho back on the bench for the clash away to Liverpool

Injury: Foot

Expected return date: Returned

What Arteta has said: "Jorginho is still a doubt. He’s racing."

Mohamed Elneny
Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny made his return from injury in the Champions League against PSV but suffered a further setback, as he had to be removed due to a suspect hamstring issue. Fortunately, it appears as though the Egyptian international will return soon, with the upcoming African Cup of Nations on the horizon. The Egypt international returned to the matchday squad against Liverpool at Anfield.

Injury: Hamstring

Expected return date: Returned

What Arteta has said: "Mo Elneny hopefully will train with us today and we’ll see how he feels about it. The rest is no news."

Thomas Partey
Partey has undergone a 'procedure' which is set to keep him out for the remainder of the year, football.london understands. Arteta recently provided a fresh update on the 30-year-old's rehabilitation process but did not make it clear if he will be fit to face Liverpool in their FA Cup third-round clash at the start of 2024. Arsenal are hopeful of Partey returning for the FA Cup clash against Liverpool before heading to AFCON.

Injury: Thigh

Expected return date: Liverpool (H) - January 7

What Arteta has said: "He’s still finalising his rehab. He hasn’t trained with the team yet."

Takehiro Tomiyasu
Tomiyasu suffered a calf injury in the second half of Arsenal's clash against Wolves and he's expected to be out of action until the new year. Arsenal are hopeful of Tomiyasu returning for the FA Cup clash against Liverpool before heading to the Asia Cup with Japan.

Injury: Calf

Expected return date: January

What Arteta has said : "We had a scan and it’s not good news. He’s got an injury in his calf and he’s going to be out for a while I think."

Fabio Vieira
Vieira has been nursing a groin issue and underwent surgery on the injury. The former Porto man has struggled so far for game time under Arteta and his latest setback is likely to provide further woes.

Injury: Groin

Expected return date: Mid to late January 2024

What Arteta has said: "Yeah we’ve got a problem with him. He’s been having some discomfort. We sent him to see a specialist and the advice was to have an operation in his groin. He did that yesterday. We don’t expect him back this side of the winter break."

Jurrien Timber
Timber, who joined the Gunners from Ajax in summer, suffered a devastating injury on the opening weekend of the Premier League season. At the end of the first half of Arsenal's clash against Nottingham Forest, the 22-year-old defender went down clutching his right knee.

As it transpired, Timber's ACL injury wasn't as bad as first feared, with the estimate now a return between March and May of next year. Having been pictured most recently on Arsenal's club trip to Rwanda, there is a growing belief that fans should see the former Ajax man in action before the end of the current campaign.

Injury: ACL

Expected return date : Early 2024

What Arteta has said: "He’s doing really well. He’s going through a really significant injury but he’s flying at the stage that he is right now. The way that he works every day is very satisfying to watch.

"We’re still going to miss him for a long time. The first few steps are crucial for the amount of work they have to do in the knee to get the mobility and the strength back."
