The Nigeria international's new contract will reportedly have a €130million (£112million) release clause, which is said to be a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ to make sure that the 23-year-old's exit from the reigning Serie A champions is peaceful. The report goes on to claim that Arsenal have already made contact with the aforementioned Calenda.
The Gunners have several options in attack, with the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, Eddie Nketiah and Kai Havertz all operating through the middle this term. However, none of those players are as prolific as Osimhen, who netted 26 times in the Serie A last season.
It remains to be seen whether or not a move will materialise for the former Lille frontman, who will likely have a host of other top European sides chasing his signature, one being Chelsea. The Blues certainly hold an interest in the Napoli centre-forward ahead of the January transfer window.
However, a move for the Nigerian during the season is deemed as unlikely at this stage, football.london understands. Ivan Toney of Brentford is also an option for the west Londoners and is expected to be cheaper than Osimhen.
Chelsea are long-term admirers of Toney, football.london understands, with the Bees striker wanting to leave the club in the January window once he returns from his ban. Arsenal, too, have been linked with the England international, who has revealed his admiration for the Gunners in the past.
"Yeah, [I’m a] Liverpool fan," the 27-year-old told The Diary of a CEO podcast back in August. "I have been a Liverpool fan my whole life, but from young I have liked Arsenal, I like watching Arsenal and how they play and kind of how passionate the fans are.
