Petr Cech, David Luiz, Willian, Jorginho and most recently Kai Havertz have all swapped Stamford Bridge for the Emirates Stadium in recent times. With varying levels of success.
After some considerable criticism, Havertz has begun to find his feet in north London. The German international even won the Gunners’ Player of the Month award for November, scoring a last-gasp winner away to Brentford.
The next Blues player that makes sense at Arsenal? Conor Gallagher.
As per the Daily Mail, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are willing to part ways with Gallagher, somewhat surprising news considering how impressive the 23-year-old has been this season. Yes, Chelsea have a whole have been hugely underwhelming but the England international has still consistently delivered some fine performances from midfield.
It is no secret that Arsenal need a number eight. Their squad is stacked with both holding and attacking midfielders.
However, pure No.8s are in short supply following Granit Xhaka’s departure to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer. But Gallagher is just that.
A tenacious midfielder who gets up and down the pitch, can read the game well and makes intelligent movements to arrive in the box and contribute offensively. Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard are mainstays in Mikel Arteta’s side.
Rice is the defensive anchor and Odegaard is best utilised as a creative presence that can drop deep and progress the play through the lines whilst also popping up with goals too. But they need someone in between.
Someone who can win their duels, run hard and also bring additional offensive power to the centre of the park. Gallagher ticks all three of those boxes.
The former Crystal Palace loanee enjoyed an excellent campaign in front of goal during his time at Selhurst Park, netting eight goals.
He is somewhat Aaron Ramsey-like in his play style. Exactly the kind of profile that would help elevate Arteta’s squad.
Gallagher is said to be valued at around £45million by Chelsea.
