Arsenal transfer news: Arteta eyes four signings, Edu decides on two players, Toney stance

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has always promised to use each transfer window to its maximum. Sporting director Edu will be on hand to ensure January goes as smoothly as possible for the title-chasing Gunners. Express Sport provides a round-up of the latest gossip and rumours coming out of the Emirates.

Arteta wants four signings

Arteta reportedly wants to make four signings in order to ‘complete’ his squad. The Independent says a striker, midfielder and two full-backs are on his radar.

Thomas Partey’s poor injury record has seen Arsenal scour the market for potential replacements. The absences of Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu have also exposed a lack of options at the back.

However, the budget for January will be limited due to the £200million-plus spent in the summer. Arteta will likely have to settle for just two of the four signings in January.

Arsenal will have more to spend if they are able to shift out players not deemed a big part of Arteta’s plans. Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah have both been linked with exits.

Jakub Kiwior

Edu has reportedly closed the door on a potential exit for Jakub Kiwior. The versatile Poland defender has seen his game time restricted this season, especially in the Premier League.

Kiwior only joined Arsenal last January from Serie A side Spezia for a fee of up to £21m. He has received reported interest in taking him back to Italy this winter.

AC Milan are one of the clubs said to be interested in signing him following an injury crisis in defence. But the Evening Standard says any exit for Kiwior will be blocked.

Cedric Soares will be allowed to leave though. The right-back has started just one match this season and is out of contract in the summer.
