‘Awkward’ - Chris Sutton predicts result of West Ham PL clash v Arsenal for BBC Sport

Chris Sutton predicts result of West Ham United Premier League clash v Arsenal for BBC Sport
Chris Sutton has predicted the result of the Premier League clash between West Ham United and Arsenal for BBC Sport.

The Hammers travel to North London to take on the Gunners under the lights at the Emirates on Thursday (28 December).

The home side are currently top of the league table on 40 points, with the visitors sitting sixth on 30 points, with both having played 18 matches.

“This is a tricky one for Arsenal. West Ham are in good form, up to sixth place in the table, and always awkward to break down,” Sutton wrote for BBC Sport (24 December).

“Hammers boss David Moyes is so underrated and also seemingly unappreciated by some fans, no matter how well his side do. I think it is a case where they should be careful what they wish for.

“Still, I am going with Arsenal here. They are at home, where they have won their past seven matches in all competitions, and although West Ham will work hard, they won’t keep them out.

“Sutton’s prediction: 3-0.”

Home win?

The Gunners have been in formidable form at home lately, with Mikel Arteta turning the Emirates into a fortress, with the help of the satisfied Arsenal supporters.

Both clubs have, however, been enjoying themselves this season, with the Hammers once again looking good under Moyes.

The Scot seemingly always comes under fire, but his club are currently in the Premier League top six and are into the knockout stages of the Europa League.

West Ham go into the match in North London on the back of a fine 2-0 win against Manchester United, which should give the defenders and attackers plenty of confidence.

But Arsenal represent a different test entirely, with the Gunners playing some very attractive and successful football under Arteta.

Moyes will definitely have a gameplan for the test under the lights, but an early goal for the hosts is certain to throw a spanner in the works.
