Under former Arsenal boss Unai Emery, Villa have propelled themselves up the table, competing in Europe for the first time in years after a turnaround last season. This campaign has started in similar form, with the Midlands outfit now only four points behind their opponents on Saturday.
While they were seen as title outsiders, Aston Villa cemented their name in the conversation in midweek after beating Manchester City. A goal from Leon Bailey proved the difference between the two teams, but it was one where Villa were the dominant force against the Champions.
Villa leapfrogged City and will have their sights firmly set on doing the same to Arsenal when they make the trip to Villa Park. "Huge credit to Unai and staff for the way they have turned things around," Arteta said ahead of the match. "They are going to be a really tough opponent. It’s a great place to go. One of my favourite grounds. Very English ground. Great atmosphere. It’s going to be a big chance for us."
It remains to be seen whether the Gunners will be able to inflict a first home defeat of the season against Villa, but it will be a huge challenge. The side were even warned by Guardiola following his side's loss in midweek that has seen them slip to fourth and without a win in four.Speaking to the press after the game, the Man City boss said: "The better team won. Aston Villa was better than us. We struggled. It was really difficult. They are well organised, fast and physical players, they are able to control many aspects. That is the reason why they are up there.
"They played good football and we could not do it. It is my duty, it is my job to find a way to come back. Many years now we are together we found a way, we are able to find a way to win games, to find a way to do it."
It shows the challenge ahead for Arsenal and Arteta, who will now be tasked with finding a way to break down the opposition and earn another three points,
