Turner, who was replaced in the Arsenal squad by David Raya, made a bad mistake against United, which led to Gary Neville hammering him live on Sky Sports.
So, what was said about former Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner? Let’s take a look.
Former Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner criticised
Well, Nottingham Forest beat Manchester United 2-1 at the City Ground in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
I believe that Forest were the better team over the course of the 90 minutes and deservedly picked up all three points from the encounter.
However, things could have been different. United made it 1-1 in the 78th minute when Marcus Rashford found the back of the net.
The goal came from a mistake from goalkeeper Matt Turner, who joined Forest from Arsenal in the summer of 2023 for £7 million (The Daily Mail).

Moussa Niakhate gave a routine back-pass to the USA international goalkeeper, who tried to pick out Danilo.
However, the ball was intercepted by Alejandro Garnacho, who fed it to Rashford to score.
Former United star Gary Neville was on co-commentary duty for the match on Sky Sports Premier League, and he was scathing in his assessment of Turner just after the goal.
Neville said about Turner (79th minute, 19:06 pm, December 30, 2023): “I have got no sympathy for him whatsoever. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
“He is useless with his feet, he has proven it time and time again. He still tries. I mean, the ball is put back to him with a decent pace, just put your feet through it.”
My View: Arsenal were right to sell Matt Turner
In my view, Arsenal were right to sell Matt Turner in the summer of 2023. I believe that David Raya is a big upgrade on the 29-year-old USA international.
Raya, who has now established himself as the number one goalkeeper for Arsenal, is better with his feet and is also more experienced at Premier League level.
Turner is a good goalkeeper and is a USA international. But, as we have seen at Nottingham Forest in recent weeks, he does make bad mistakes.
Like the one he did against Manchester United. Like the ones he made against Tottenham Hotspur when Steve Cooper was in charge of Forest.
Yes, I know that every footballer makes mistakes, but for a club like Arsenal who are aiming to win the Premier League and also make a huge impact in the UEFA Champions League, you need to keep the number of errors as low as possible.
Raya himself has made mistakes this season, and it will be interesting to see if Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is forced to bring Aaron Ramsdale back into the starting lineup anytime soon.
