'He would go': Alan Brazil thinks £100m Premier League player would be ready to sign for Arsenal in January

Amid Arsenal being linked to a midfielder in January, Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist have now disagreed on the possibility of one signing.

The pair were discussing the chances of Douglas Luiz joining Mikel Arteta’s side in January from Aston Villa on talkSPORT this morning.
And they actually weren’t in unison on Luiz’s probable desire to join the club, with McCoist saying it wouldn’t be an easy decision.

However, Brazil was confident that the midfielder would be fully on board with a January move to Arsenal.

He said: “I don’t see that Ally. It’s a lot of money. He’s a good player and he’s pulling all the strings for them but for £100 million? No.

“I think if Arsenal came in, this is a good debate this one, because Villa are a top, top club.

“But Arsenal you could say top dogs in London, you could say that. They are very strong. I think it would be hard for him if the money came in and Villa said we have had a bit, it’s a lot, do you want to go. I think he would go.

Ally McCoist then replied: “Well there is an element of that. If the club say they have received an offer and they think it’s a fair bid and they are pointing you in that direction, but if Villa want to keep him I think he probably stays.

“Because Villa just now are flying, I take you point about Arsenal, but it’s a big decision but it’s not the same as it was three or four years ago, when it would be an automatic one.”

Of course, at the prices mentioned it does seem improbable that Arsenal would even be able to make a move mid-season.

The club are known to be operating under fairly strict financial fair play parameters, making January moves difficult.

And it seems that the club may need to sell prior to recruiting anyone before next summer.

Mikel Arteta’s side have now been linked with one reluctant departure, one that would probably upset a lot of fans.

But as this Arsenal project progresses, there will be tough decisions to make.

And certain sacrifices will need to be made in order to recruit a player like Douglas Luiz in either January or the summer.

But many will agree with Alan Brazil on this one in thinking Luiz would be very keen to join Arsenal
