‘I’m hearing’: Fabrizio Romano says there’s one thing Arsenal don’t like about Joao Palhinha now

Joao Palhinha has emerged as a transfer target for Arsenal.

The Portuguese midfielder is said to be a player that the Gunners appreciate, and with the January transfer window looming, the rumour mill is starting to heat up.

However, while Arsenal do like Palhinha, there are some doubts about this signing internally at the Emirates.

Indeed, speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has shared one doubt that Arsenal have about Palhinha – his age.

Arsenal want someone younger than Palhinha
Romano shared what he knows about the Fulham midfielder and Arsenal.

“It is also true that Arsenal appreciate Joao Palhinha. They are looking at midfielders, I told you that the top target is Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa, but Aston Villa are doing wonderful so it’s very difficult for Arsenal to convince Villa to sell Luiz, so there is a concrete possibility that Arsenal move onto other targets. Palhinha is appreciated, but an expensive one and not an easy one and also because of the age, what I’m hearing at Arsenal is that they want a player who is probably a bit younger,’ Romano said.Understandable
Joao Palhinha is a fantastic player who would improve any team in the Premier League, but ever since arriving at Arsenal, Mikel Arteta has been about building long-term.

All of his big signings at Arsenal have been under the age of 25, and with Palhinha turning 29 at the end of the season, he doesn’t quite tick that box.

Let’s not be silly and pretend as though Palhinha is over the hill, but he may not have as long a shelf-life as someone like Douglas Luiz, and that is something that Arsenal are clearly factoring into their recruitment at the moment.

Whether or not Arsenal push on with this one remains to be seen
