Ivan Toney 'deletes' Instagram message to Arsenal star to spark fresh transfer rumours

Brentford striker Ivan Toney allegedly uploaded an Instagram story praising Arsenal ace Declan Rice as speculation continues to suggest the striker is Emirates-bound.

Toney is serving the last stages of his eight-month suspension for breaching FA betting rules and where he'll be playing his football after the January transfer window remains up for debate. Many feel he could be the main man on Mikel Arteta's transfer wish list and this rumoured social media development will only add further weight to that rumour.

Arsenal played out a thrilling 4-3 victory away at Luton on Tuesday night in a clash that saw Rice swing it the Gunners' way via a 97th-minute header. It seemed to impress Toney, who apparently took to Instagram to post a snap of him watching the drama unfold alongside the caption: "@DeclanRice. What a game."

The 27-year-old England international has long been linked with a move to Arsenal and it would appear that Gunners fans are very supportive of the potential move. Supporters online quickly took to social media to express their delight in Toney's now-deleted picture.

One wrote on X: "Ivan Toney at Arsenal will be madness, if they go on to be winter champions and he joins in January, they are DEFINITELY winning the League." Another added: "Ivan Toney is loving the Declan Rice winner. Come to the red carpet my guy, he can assist you too you know."

It is not just the fans that want Toney to swap the red and white of Brentford for the red and white of Arsenal, Gunners legend Ian Wright has also given the transfer his backing. "We spread goals out last season and it took us to a certain place," he told The Overlap's Stick To Football podcast.

"I think with Toney the links won't go away as it's blatantly obvious to see, that focal point that player who scores, that takes you somewhere else.

You can't question the endeavour of Eddie (Nketiah) or (Gabriel) Jesus but you look back at the Tottenham game with the Jesus chance. For a player of that calibre to be in that position 1-0 up, those chances have to be buried."The margins are so small now you can't afford to be missing chances like and that and not winning games. The work off the ball is fantastic for both players. The Toney links don't go away because for me that is the last piece of the jigsaw. He'll do it if it can be done."

For all of the speculation, it remains unclear whether Arsenal will be willing to spend the kind of money Brentford are asking for. It is believed that the Bees want as much as £80m for their star striker.
