Mikel Arteta's side are set to go toe-to-toe with the Merseysiders at Anfield this weekend, having lost just once so far in the Premier League this season. Liverpool trail Arsenal by just one point heading into Saturday's showing, with current champions Manchester City slightly off their usual pace in recent weeks.
In what is shaping up to be an exciting affair, Arsenal can extend their lead over the Reds to four points with victory on Merseyside, but are once again likely to be without Fabio Vieira and Thomas Partey as the Gunners attempt to navigate through a hectic Christmas and new year period.
Carragher, who made 737 appearances for his boyhood club, believes Klopp's men haven't proven just yet that they are ready to take that next vital step. "Throughout the season when you look at the points Liverpool have got, they are one of the top teams in the country," began Carragher, speaking via Sky Sports on Wednesday evening.
"But, when you look at the performances, I am not so sure. I need convincing and there is no better way to do that then get a result against Arsenal at the weekend who are top of the table. I just think Liverpool might be a little bit short of the title - I hope I am wrong.
"It might be a season that will be different from the past when you almost had to win every week with the standards that Manchester City and Liverpool set for so long. If Liverpool are to win the league, it would have to be a season where it would be mid 80 points, rather than mid 90 points."
