Kylian Mbappé transfer deadline set amid Liverpool links as Arsenal offered Ivan Toney 'Plan B'

Kylian Mbappè deadline set
The Kylian Mbappé saga seemingly never ends. The Frenchman has been at the center of a tug-of-war between current team Paris Saint-Germain and suitor Real Madrid for years now, but the end does appear to be in sight.

Mbappè has told the French side that he doesn't intend to remain at the club past next summer. Spanish source AS states that Madrid has told Mbappé it is willing to offer the superstar a contract to join Los Blancos next summer, but he must make a decision by January 15.

Liverpool is being linked with a move of its own for Mbappé (via The Mirror). But the finances involved in bringing the 24-year-old to Anfield has always made any deal appear unrealistic.

Liverpool.com says: The Mbappé saga has frankly dragged on way too long, and most would just like the issue to be put to bed. PSG will no doubt attempt to convince Mbappè to stay, but if the player has any regard for his legacy as a player, he needs to leave the Ligue 1 side come the summer.

Arsenal offered Ivan Toney 'alternative'
Arsenal has reportedly been offered an alternative to Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who remains Mikel Arteta's number one transfer target. Toney is currently serving an eight month ban for breaking FA rules on gambling, and Arteta is intent on bringing the English striker to North London once his time is completed.

Yet the Arsenal coach could be offered a different striker. According to AS, Barcelona could provide former Manchester City forward Ferran Torres to Arteta, with the Spaniard reportedly falling out with boss Xavi and considering his options.

Torres has struggled for game time this season, with Xavi preferring Robert Lewandowski up front. Torres has made just seven starts this season for the Catalans. Moreover, the arrival of Vitor Roque from Athletico Paranaense in January in a $43m (£34m/€43m) deal is sure to add to Torres' problems.

Liverpool.com says: Torres is a different kind of player to Toney, so it remains to be seen if Arsenal would be as highly interested in Torres as they appear to be in the Brentford striker.

It's not the most obvious 'Plan BHowever, Torres is four years younger than Toney, and could represent a better long term investment than the former Manchester City forward. Moreover, Arteta has had plenty of joy working with his former Etihad charges, having got the best out of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
