Mikel Arteta fires major Arsenal title warning to Man City and Liverpool

Mikel Arteta has hinted more is to come from his Arsenal side in their expected three-way Premier League title battle with Manchester City and Liverpool. The Gunners currently sit top of the league following their late win against Brentford last Saturday and they can go four points clear at the summit before their rivals are in action by beating Wolves at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The north Londoners enter the game as heavy favourites and following on from their 6-0 demolition of RC Lens in the Champions League, another goal-fest could occur. For the first time this season, Arteta was able to deploy what looks to be his favoured front six on Wednesday evening, with injuries often a factor preventing him.

In the eyes of many, Arsenal have not looked as impressive in an attacking sense this season, instead opting to have control over a sustained period with that proving to be successful as per a number of stats. Arsenal have conceded just 28 shots on target in the league this season, an impressive return in 13 games that sees them as the team with the lowest number in that stat

Even with the focus shifting slightly, Arsenal are still scoring goals and winning games with Arteta believing his side still have more to give and a higher level to reach. "I think there are more levels to come and I hope so. We have to continue a lot of what we’re doing in games to earn the right to win, but I think we can still improve and be more consistent."

Staying consistent and peaking at the right moment will be absolutely key for Arsenal as shown by how Man City have won the last three Premier League titles. However, Jamie Carragher does not believe how the Gunners are winning games can be sustained.

"I am not so sure [whether Arsenal are better equipped for a title race]," he said on Sky Sports. "I don't think they are much better defensively because you are talking about a team who are going from the third best defence to the best at the moment and could that make a difference?

"We are also talking about the team with the best attack, going to sixth and even one of their stats is 11th. I think if Arsenal continue who they are and this is the Arsenal we are going to see this season, I don't think that they can win the league."
