First, he got caught under the ball from a corner, with Elijah Adebayo rising above him to head in an equaliser. Eight minutes later, Raya allowed Ross Barkley's shot to squirm under him as Luton took a deserved lead.
The Gunners went on to win thanks to Declan Rice's last-second header, with Raya thanking the Englishman for sparing his blushes. His performances this season have led to some pundits questioning the move to start him ahead of Aaron Ramsdale.
But Arteta has made it clear he will be sticking with the Spaniard, as Arsenal prepare to face third-place Aston Villa on Saturday. The Gunners boss insisted that Raya has impressed since his arrival from Brentford and he has no concerns about the keeper.
"Look at his form and what he has achieved since he’s been with us, it’s really, really impressive, but what can I say? I have three great goalkeepers. I’m really happy I have great wingers, some of them are on the bench," Arteta said.
"But the questions are not related to them and we have to accept that. As well we have to support our players in the best possible way, we have to protect them and we have to get the best out of them. I would focus much more on that.
"Every player needs the right support and love and they deserve that. For us for sure and he’s going to continue to have that. After you have to re-focus and think about the best preparation for Villa, but it was a great moment next to our fans.
"You see the chemistry between players, players off the bench who have very genuine, happy faces for each other and it was a beautiful moment. A team has to have an unbelievable desire to win every match and I think we’ve got that and we’ve shown that time and time again."
Not everyone agrees with Arteta though, with former Premier League winner Chris Sutton insisting Raya will ultimately cost Arsenal the title. Sutton believes that the Spaniard's errors will come back to bite the Gunners.
"The one thing from Arteta's perspective, and this Raya-Ramsdale debate: Will his stubbornness to carry on with David Raya in the position they're in, could that cost them the title at the end of the season?" Sutton told the It's All Kicking Off podcast.
"I just don't get it. He can't keep making those errors if Arsenal want to win the Premier League. People see David Raya as good with his feet, not very good with his hands. Is that fair? Is that right? At Premier League level, you have to be dominant in your box.
"Is he dominant when crosses come in? No. Shot-stopping, he's okay, the one went under his body the other night and that happens. But in the context of a title race and Arsenal are well in this title race, that is a bad goal to concede. Declan Rice bailed him out."
