Mikel Arteta and Edu will surely look to bring in another midfielder in 2024.
Declan Rice has been a sensational signing but there are a few question marks in the Arsenal engine room.
Thomas Partey keeps suffering injury problems and Jorginho will be out of contract at the end of the season.
Arsenal would love to add another midfielder for the future and they appear to be back in the hunt for Everton ace Amadou Onana…
Arsenal interested in Everton’s Amadou Onana
The Daily Mail now claim that Arsenal are keeping close tabs on Everton midfielder Onana.
It’s stated that Onana is being ‘watched closely’ ahead of a potential move for the Belgian in 2024.
Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha is appreciated at Arsenal but he isn’t viewed as the right age profile given that he is already 28.
Onana is only 22 and Arsenal may believe that Arteta can mould him into a complete midfielder in the coming years.
Convincing the Toffees to sell won’t be easy; Onana cost Everton £33million in 2022 and they will surely command a hefty profit even with some financial issues.
Whether Arsenal are willing to cough up a huge fee in January is unclear but he is a talent the Gunners have liked for a while now.
Arsenal could land Patrick Vieira-like talent in Onana
Arsenal fans may remember that Onana was targeted in January of this year.
Reports in Belgium suggested that Arsenal had genuine hope of signing Onana but no deal was done.
Arsenal didn’t get their man but, nearly a year on, they are back in the hunt for him once again.
Onana has blown a little hot and cold at times at Everton but his huge frame and athletic ability mean he has enormous potential to develop into a star.
Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has even suggested that Vieira is like a ‘young Patrick Vieira’ in midfield, which will intrigue Arsenal supporters.
Onana is a long, long way off the level Vieira showed at Arsenal but Arteta may well feel that he can extract that kind of quality in the years to come.
