We could see both Arsenal and Chelsea go into the market for big-name strikers in 2024.
Arsenal still lack a really clinical striker whilst Chelsea need another forward to support Nicolas Jackson and the returning Christopher Nkunku.
That is why the likes of Brentford star Ivan Toney and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen have been linked with both clubs.
Another name is in the mix for the two London giants with eyes now on the Portuguese market…
Arsenal and Chelsea face major outlay for Viktor Gyokeres
The Mirror now claim that both Arsenal and Chelsea have been scouting Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres ahead of a possible move.
Gyokeres only joined Sporting from Coventry City over the summer, completing a £20million move to Lisbon.
The Swede has now racked up 16 goals in 19 games for Sporting whilst also adding seven goals.
Gyokeres is making real strides in his career and Sporting have no plans to let him go without receiving a staggering fee.
It’s stated that Sporting would now want around £85million in order to sell Gyokeres, more than four times the fee they paid a few months ago.
That price is the release clause in the striker’s contract, meaning Arsenal and Chelsea will now have to dig very deep.
Gyokeres was playing Championship football this time last year but is now wanted by the Premier League’s elite.
Hailed as ‘unbelievable’ by his former Coventry boss Mark Robins, Gyokeres would surely love another crack at Premier League action.
Brighton and Hove Albion spotted Gyokeres as a youngster and brought him in from IF Brommapojkarna back in 2018.
Gyokeres made just eight appearances for the Seagulls though and Brighton sold him to Coventry for around £1million in 2021.
It’s not often that Brighton make a mistake in the transfer market but selling Gyokeres for such a low fee may be one of them.
Mikel Arteta and Mauricio Pochettino must now consider whether Gyokeres is really worth £85million though, with that price simply enormous – especially for a January move.
