Report: Club now willing to sell 'world-class' 27-year-old to Arsenal for £55m in January - on one condition

Arsenal may be able to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney for as little as £55 million when the January transfer window opens.

Of course, it seems ridiculous to suggest that £55 million would represent a potential bargain. However, in today’s game, landing a striker with the quality of Ivan Toney for that sort of fee could prove to be a masterstroke for Arsenal.

Toney is closing in on making a return to the game after spending several months on the sidelines serving a ban.

And it seems that the Bees are open to doing a deal with the Gunners. Football Transfers reports that the two clubs have a good relationship. And thus, Brentford would be prepared to let Arsenal pay the fee in instalments.

Interestingly, the report adds that Arsenal could have to offer just £55 million if they are willing to pay the entire fee in one go.

That is definitely a potential boost for Mikel Arteta. Reports have previously suggested that Brentford have set an £80 million asking price for Toney.

A potential bargain for the Gunners
It may be easier for Arsenal to pay in instalments given the amount they have invested in their squad over the last few years.

But clearly, Brentford are open to compromising on the terms. And that is an encouraging sign ahead of the January window.

The 27-year-old is a ‘world-class‘ goalscorer who has proved himself in the Premier League. He scored five more goals than Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah combined in the top-flight last season.

So if Arsenal could get Toney for less than they spent on Kai Havertz, that could really prove to be a game-changer for the Gunners.
