Here are the latest transfer rumors and news around world football.
Barcelona eyeing River Plate prospect
Barcelona are reportedly fans of River Plate prospect Claudio Echeverri, but getting a transfer done with River Plate isn’t going to be easy, per Fabrizio Romano.
The Vitor Roque case is still open but optimistic from a Barcelona perspective, with the talented Brazilian forward expected to join the Blaugrana in the January transfer window.
So now, the topic becomes who is next for Barça. It appears Echeverri could be the next target on the list for Deco and Co., as Barça look to supplement their standout youngsters produced by La Masia with great signings from around the world.
Barcelona have seen how Real Madrid have benefited from the likes of Rodrygo Goes and Vinícius Júnior, so they, naturally, want to get in on the game, like they did years ago with the fruitful addition of Neymar.
Per Fab, Barça have opened talks for Echeverri, who is a 17-year-old midfielder with a world of potential. His release clause of 30 million euros isn’t cheap for a prospect, but it is affordable.
Roma, Inter watching Di Gregorio
Roma were linked to Monza goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio last season, as the shot-stopper established himself as one of the best in the league for a newly promoted side that exceeded expectations.
According to Calciomercato.com’s Emanuele Tramacere, Roma remain interested in Di Gregorio.
They should be. Roma made a mistake by not signing Di Gregorio this past summer as an upgrade on Rui Patrício, who was one of the worst-performing goalkeepers in Serie A last season.
To start the season, the Giallorossi dropped a lot of points because of Patrício’s poor performances in goal.
However, Roma are not alone. Calciomercato also state that Inter Milan are watching Di Gregorio as a possible long-term replacement for Yann Sommer, who has been one of the best goalkeepers in the world over the past few seasons.
He has maintained that level – or even exceeded it – with Scudetto favorites Inter since joining them from Borussia Mönchengladbach and Bayern München in 2022/23.
Given their greater need for a keeper, Roma should be the favorites for Di Gregorio. But with Inter racking up the signings and the points in the table, José Mourinho’s club cannon be complacent here. They need a new GK.
Chelsea, Newcastle want Ramsdale from Arsenal
In other goalkeeper news, Chelsea are considering showing increased interest in a player from their biggest rival, Arsenal shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale. Newcastle are also reportedly interested in the England international.
Ramsdale is no longer the starter in North London after the Gunners signed David Raya, arguably the second-best goalkeeper in the entire Premier League last season after Liverpool’s sensational Alisson Becker.
Chelsea signed Robert Sánchez from Brighton as their new keeper this past summer, replacing Kepa Arrizabalaga (now on loan at Real Madrid). Sánchez has honestly been a downgrade on Kepa, but the bigger issue is that he is currently injured.
Ramsdale isn’t a sure thing in goal, but he’s a solid keeper and should be better than Sánchez in terms of his consistency. We’ve seen plenty of players switch between Arsenal and Chelsea, so the rivalry won’t be a big issue.
Meanwhile, Newcastle have one of the best goalkeepers in the league in Nick Pope. Ramsdale would just be a backup to him, so it’s hard to see the young keeper wanting what could be a worse move for him from Arsenal to the Magpies
