Transfer News: Newcastle lead for Phillips, Zubimendi to Arsenal, Fulham’s Adarabioyo hope

Fulham can still keep Adarabioyo
Fabrizio Romano recently cleared the air regarding the status of Fulham center back Tosin Adarabioyo, stating that nothing has been decided between player and club with no recent proposal submitted.

“All scenarios are currently open”, per Fab, and Adarabioyo is still taking his time to come to a final decision on his future.

Adarabioyo’s contract expires at the end of the 2023/24 season, so Fulham risk losing the talented central defender for free this winter on a pre-contract deal.

That said, it is not feasible for them to sell Adarabioyo at this stage, and even if they were to sell, the fee would be so small that it may be better to wait and see if they even have a shot at keeping him rather than cutting their losses for a few million pounds.

However, the issue is that Zubimendi has shown no interest in leaving San Sebastián, which was the case during the 2022/23 season when the Gunners first showed serious interest in the LaLiga midfield general.

Zubimendi is, in theory, one of the best midfielders money can buy, especially since he is a rare talent in the 6 position, which is not the easiest to find world-class quality.

Money may not be able to buy Zubimendi, though, because of his fierce loyalty to the Basque side. Eventually, he may elect to move, and Arsenal will then likely have to be in a fierce transfer battle with LaLiga giants Barcelona.

Arsenal would be wise to stay attentive to the player’s situation and wait for any possible opening. With Real Sociedad into the 2023/24 Champions League knockout stages, a move in 2024 seems even less likely.

Newcastle favorites for Kalvin Phillips
According to The Guardian’s Ed Aarons, Newcastle are the current favorites to sign Manchester City defensive midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who is essentially a lock to leave the club this winter with the Citizens actively shopping him.

Newcastle landing Phillips would be huge, because there is a notion that City are hesitant to sell to a Premier League top-four rival. The Magpies are a Champions League-level club now and would benefit greatly from Phillips’ defensive quality.

Juventus have shown major interest in acquiring the England international on loan, yet it seems that, at this juncture, Newcastle have the edge to land the former Leeds United star.

Phillips is expected to leave on loan, and he could have an option to buy inserted in any transfer deal.

Newcastle have a great anchor in Bruno Guimarães, who could have more freedom to drive forward with Phillips destroying opposing midfielders with his high-quality, intelligent defending.
