Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has been a long-term admirer of the Brazilian and saw offers turned down by Villa in the 2022 summer transfer window. Arsenal have continued to be linked with a move for Luiz since, though Villa have so far stood firm on their stance.
The North London club could be set for an overhaul in midfield, with Thomas Partey, Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny all linked with exits in recent months. That means Declan Rice would be the only recognised senior option if the trio were to depart.
Arsenal have been linked with several potential options to bolster their midfield, including Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi and Everton's Amadou Onana. Luiz is dubbed Arteta's dream signing and Zubimendi has been hailed as the "next Busquets."
Although Everton's Onana is claimed to be open to a move to the Emirates, he is thought to be the Gunners' least favoured choice according to journalist Ben Jacobs. He recently told the Football Terrace: "If you were to rank Arsenal’s top two midfield targets even above the links with Onana, it would be Zubimendi and Douglas Luiz.
