David Ornstein shares update on Arsenal interest in Everton star Onana

But the Toffees should be looking to do everything they can to ensure he remains at Goodison Park beyond this month as he will be crucial in their bid to fight off relegation.

The Blues showed more than enough in the first of the campaign to suggest they won’t be in trouble come May, but if the Belgian were to move on, then that would significantly weaken their options in the middle of the park.

Arsenal transfer news as David Ornstein responds to interest in Everton star Amadou Onana
David Ornstein has issued an update on the links between Everton star Amadou Onana and Arsenal during the January transfer window.

When asked in his Q&A on The Athletic website on Thursday (11 January) what he’s heard about the rumours surrounding the Belgian international, the journalist said there have been “no talks” between the Toffees and the Gunners.

It comes after Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri tweeted on Monday (8 January) that the North London club were in “intensive” talks with the Blues over a deal for the 22-year-old midfielder.

Relief

There is likely to be plenty of relief amongst the Everton fans following this latest update as there is no way the club can afford to let Onana go during this window.

While Tavolieri is a well-respected journalist, Ornstein is usually extremely reliable with his information and usually knows what’s going on at the Emirates.

That isn’t to say, though, that Arsenal won’t ramp up their interest in the midfielder over the next few weeks as they look to get their Premier League title challenge back on track.
