Exclusive: Luiz talks scheduled after multiple Arsenal bids

Sources: Douglas Luiz talks scheduled after multiple Arsenal bids
Aston Villa are in no rush to discuss a new deal with star midfielder Douglas Luiz, sources have told Football Insider.

Arsenal are also pushing hard for the Brazil international behind the scenes and have had numerous bids for his services rejected in recent windows.

Luiz will have two years remaining on his deal at Villa Park in June and it is believed the Midlands giants are aware of the growing interest in his services.

However, a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Villa are in “no rush” to hand him a new contract – with a sit-down likely at the end of the 2023-24 campaign to see where the land lies.

Sources say potential Champions League qualification could prove vital in keeping Luiz at the club, with the midfielder flattered by the interest being shown in him.

Unai Emery’s side are also wary that the Brazil international would command a huge weekly wage following his emergence as a standout performer at club and international level.

Luiz has notched seven goals and six assists in 30 appearances across all competitions this season with Villa mounting an unlikely challenge for the Premier League title.

The ex-Man City star is now also a regular for Brazil ahead of Copa America later this year.

Emery’s side sit third in the Premier League, just two points adrift of league leaders Liverpool.

Villa will also play in the knockout stage of the Europa Conference League from March after winning their group earlier this season.
