But, unfortunately for Arsenal, back-to-back defeats against West Ham and Fulham followed and they have since fallen into fourth place. The north Londoners are now five points adrift of Jurgen Klopp's side, who currently sit top of the table.
However, the Premier League title race is far from over with plenty of marquee fixtures still to be played. Arteta will be determined to reclaim top-spot in the coming weeks, with the Gunners' next two games coming against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.
Then, on February 4, Arsenal will lock horns with Liverpool in what could be a season-defining clash. It just so happens that the title showdown is also the Gunners' first game back after the January transfer window slams shut.
So, with that being said, football.london has taken a look at which players have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium and could lead Arteta's side to victory...
Amadou Onana

Onana has featured 16 times for Everton in the Premier League this season, helping Sean Dyche's side climb out of the relegation zone despite a 10-point deduction in November. The 22-year-old midfielder, who sees his contract at Goodison Park expire in 2027, has reportedly courted Arsenal's interest with his impressive performances.
In fact, football.london understands that the Gunners are exploring a potential deal to sign the Toffees ace, who's been valued in the region of £50million. It remains to be seen whether or not Arsenal lodge a bid this month, but interest in the Belgian follows the extended absence of Thomas Partey.
Ivan Toney

The Brentford striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium for a while now despite receiving an eight-month ban for breaching Football Association betting rules in the summer.
Although he's not played a single minute in the Premier League since May, Toney remains one of the most coveted frontmen in Europe. The England international will be eligible to make his full return to action on January 20 when the Bees face Nottingham Forest.
Joshua Zirkzee
£50m-rated Joshua Zirkzee has reportedly captured the attention of Arsenal but the Dutchman has been on the Gunners' radar for seven years.
Zirkzee, who left Bayern Munich 18 months ago, has recently emerged as a surprise target for Arsenal as Arteta looks to further bolster his frontline. According to The Telegraph, the 22-year-old forward has been valued at £50million following his impressive performances in the Serie A.
He's featured 19 times for Bologna in the Italian top-flight this season, scoring seven goals and recording two assists. Manchester United have also been linked with a move for the Netherlands Under-21 international recently.
Borja Mayoral

According to The Sun, Arsenal have submitted a £22million bid for the Getafe striker. However, the Spanish outfit have reportedly rejected the Gunners' opening bid, pointing towards their £39million valuation.
Mayoral, who sees his contract expire in 2027, has featured 19 times in La Liga this season, scoring 12 goals and recording just one assist. The Spaniard has been enjoying a rich vein of form, catching the eye in Getafe's six-goal thriller against Atletico Madrid last month
