‘He’s a finisher’: Pundit says 23-year-old Arsenal midfielder could play up front now

Arsenal have a striking crisis on their hands right now.

The Gunners aren’t scoring goals at the rate they should be, and many are blaming Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus for these issues.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of new potential striker signings, but, by the sounds of things, it will be tough for the Gunners to afford anyone this month.

Speaking on the Handbrake Off Podcast, Adrian Clarke has been discussing Emile Smith Rowe’s future at Arsenal, and he’s suggesting that the 23-year-old could play up front, claiming that he is actually a fantastic finisher.

Smith Rowe could play up front
Clarke gave his verdict on the 23-year-old.

“I would say it’s left-side number eight, that’s his best position but I genuinely believe he could fill any of the front five spots. He’s played wide left and been excellent, he could cover Bukayo Saka, I’d like to see that actually, Saka comes off on 70 minutes, give Emile a chance in that position because he’d take up more half spaces and we can get Ben White on the outside. He can play on the wing, either number eight spot, and as a withdrawn number nine as well because he’s a finisher, his finishing is one of his best qualities and one of the best in the squad,” Clarke said.

Worth a try
As strange as this sounds, this could be worth a try.

As Clarke says, Smith Rowe is a great finisher, and while he may not be the fastest or the strongest, he’s great on the ball, and he could help link things up between the midfield and the attack while also arriving into the box to spearhead the attack.

Smith Rowe does need to find a way to get more games and Arsenal need to find a way to get more goals, so perhaps this is an idea worth pursuing.

Mikel Arteta may want to think about this as a potential solution to his current striking issues.
