West Ham were dealt a massive blow yesterday when it emerged that Arsenal are moving on one of their reported January transfer window targets Joshua Zirkzee.
It has been widely reported that both the Hammers and Gunners are in the market to try and sign a new forward this month.
Pay-off for West Ham as Arsenal launch bid?
The bad news for West Ham is that Arsenal are planning to hijack a move for Bologna ace Zirkzee, as we reported on Hammers News yesterday.
But Arsenal’s move for the 6ft 4in Swiss Army Knife of a striker Zirkzee – who is said to have no significant weaknesses – puts paid to West Ham’s hopes.
Gunners shoot down Zirkzee hopes
Especially after the Serie A side slapped a £50m price tag on the Dutchman.
There is a huge potential pay-off for West Ham as Arsenal launch a bid for £50m star Zirkzee, though.
Because The Telegraph claims that the Gunners have to sell in order to buy due to FFP.
And that they could now mean they will listen to offers for longstanding West Ham striker target Eddie Nketiah as a result.
Interest opens door for Nketiah
“Arsenal’s need for another forward has been made more pressing in recent weeks due to repeated goalscoring issues and another knee injury suffered by star striker Gabriel Jesus, while there is also uncertainty over Eddie Nketiah’s long-term future at the club,” The Telegraph states.
“Arsenal are open to doing business in January but need to be careful with their finances after a summer outlay of more than £200 million.”
So it seems there could be a silver lining for West Ham as a result of Arsenal’s reported interest in Zirkzee.
