'My understanding': Fabrizio Romano speaks on Arsenal rumours involving Everton star Amadou…

Everton fans have endured a tough January window thus far, with little sniff of any incomings, and some of their key men characteristically touted with departures.

It has become a frustrating trend to see the Toffees top performers depart Goodison Park before they had helped the club do anything of note, but given their struggles in recent years, jumping ship can hardly draw too much scrutiny.

Especially for the likes of Amadou Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite, both of whom clearly boast futures at the top end of the game.

Just to have them for now is a treat, and the length of their stay in Merseyside should be heralded.

However, with reports suggesting that the Belgium international might make an exit this window, the fanbase has been put on high alert.

There is little chance they would be able to find anyone of his quality for the fee they might receive, and it would certainly derail a campaign that has largely been successful, even if they sit in 17th.

Will Amadou Onana leave Everton?
Fortunately, speaking on his Daily Briefing, Fabrizio Romano has offered a glimmer of hope regarding Arsenal’s interest, noting: ‘I’m aware there have been some big claims being made about Arsenal intensifying negotiations to sign Amadou Onana from Everton. Of course, this has some Gunners fans excited, but I’m afraid it’s not quite the information I have for the moment.

‘My understanding is that Onana has always been one of the players appreciated by Arsenal but I don’t have more concrete updates than that just yet. Let’s see in the next days what happen, but for Arsenal it remains time to discuss internally before making concrete bids.

‘We know Arsenal have issues in midfield because Thomas Partey has barely played this season due to injury. Onana is a fine talent who could offer something similar in midfield, but it’s still early to know what will happen with Onana, and also with Partey.’

What clubs are interested in Everton’s Amadou Onana?
Whilst Arsenal are the club in question in this report, there are also a whole host of other suitors just waiting to pry the 22-year-old from Goodison Park.

However, with Manchester United too somewhat hamstrung financially, they are in fact seeking to offer a player plus cash deal, with Scott McTominay having been touted.

That could interest Sean Dyche, but perhaps the most impressive interested party is Barcelona.

As another with well-documented issues that have led to the scampering about in the market, this would be a deal based purely on their pedigree rather than their financial might.

For now, these are the three most often mentioned in the conversation for Branthwaite, but there is sure to be more top Premier League outfits behind the scenes.
