The Japanese defender has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months, with Arsenal recently turning down an approach from Napoli.
Takehiro Tomiyasu is yet to nail down his place in Mikel Arteta’s side as a regular starter. But he continues to be an important part of the Spaniard’s squad.
That’s largely down to his versatility and ability to play in any position across the backline. But he’s also proven to be a very capable defender and a player who rarely drops his level of performance.
It has already been reported that Tomiyasu is keen to stay in north London, despite interest from Serie A.
Now, Romano has shared some good news regarding Tomiyasu’s talks with Arsenal over a new deal.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Romano claimed that negotiations between Arsenal and Tomiyasu over a new deal are ‘advancing very well’.
“Negotiations are advancing very well,” the transfer insider said. “There is still something to clarify in terms of the structure of the new deal, but Tomiyasu wants to stay.
“We heard some rumours from Italy, saying Napoli, Roma and AC Milan are interested. It’s true that many Italian clubs were considering a move on loan for Tomiyasu.
“But Arsenal were very clear in their message because they said there was no chance of Tomiyasu leaving.”
Tomiyasu is currently away with Japan at the Asian Cup but should return to Arsenal by mid-February.
The 25-year-old was enjoying a run in the side before picking up a calf injury in early December.
Agreeing fresh terms with the defender will be a huge boost for Arteta considering his importance to this current Arsenal side.
Despite his lack of starts under Arteta over the past year, Tomiyasu remains committed to the club and is always ready to step in and do a job when required.
