’Nonsense, I’m not having it’: Kevin Campbell rages at what he's hearing about Arsenal's Kai…

This mini winter break for Arsenal will do them the world of good because things were starting to fall apart for the team out on the pitch.

Dropped points in the Premier League and getting knocked out in the FA Cup was just piling more misery on the players and putting more pressure on Mikel Arteta.

One player who has divided opinion since the minute he stepped foot into Arsenal has been, Kai Havertz.

Kevin Campbell was told that the big-money summer capture is ‘rubbish’ and simply ‘not good enough’ for the team but he was ‘not having it’, as he told Football’s 12th Man Podcast.

But then the former captain proceeded to turn it around under Mikel Arteta and was then dubbed a ‘legend’ by the Arsenal fans before leaving in the summer.

Whilst others continue to be impatient with a player like Kai Havertz and feel he should never have been signed, Kevin Campbell is certainly backing him.

Kai Havertz and Granit Xhaka
“He can and he has,” responded Campbell to criticism that Havertz can’t play as a nine or an eight.

“There were times when people were calling out Granit Xhaka by saying ‘he is rubbish’. Next minute, Granit Xhaka is a legend. Why? Because he came through and played in Arteta’s system, then did really well in his last season.

“Don’t tell me a Champions League winner isn’t good enough for Arsenal. Nonsense. I am not having it.

“You said ‘he isn’t good enough for Arsenal’. I am saying that Kai Havertz is good enough for Arsenal. Arsenal just haven’t been good enough themselves right now. We were top of the league with Kai Havertz in it!”

If Arsenal don’t win the Premier League title…
It’s going to be interesting to see what the reaction will be from the Arsenal fans if the title isn’t delivered this season.

Arsenal well and truly shot themselves in the foot during the past campaign and it has left many fans on edge.

For large parts of this campaign, the issue has been that the team simply haven’t looked good on the eye.

You can accept that to a certain extent if the results are coming through. But when you go from sitting top at Christmas to fourth by New Year, then it’s understandable if there is a bit of a meltdown by the fans.
