Report: 'Extraordinary' striker wanted by Arsenal now willing to take pay cut to seal January move

Arsenal have been linked with Karim Benzema in recent days as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his attacking ranks.

TEAMtalk recently reported that the Gunners have joined the race for Benzema as speculation over his future at Al-Ittihad continues to do the rounds.

Now, the same outlet has provided a further update on the Frenchman’s future, which once again mentions Arsenal as suitors.

TEAMtalk have now reported that Benzema has made it clear to Al-Ittihad that he wants a short-term return to European football.

Indeed, the 36-year-old’s representatives have apparently spoken to Arsenal and Chelsea about a potential move for their client.

In addition, Benzema and his camp haven’t ruled out the prospect of taking a pay cut in order to seal a January switch elsewhere.

As per the report, the striker earns around £170million per year, giving him a weekly take-home salary of just under £2million.

Arsenal are apparently so keen on Benzema because they believe the Frenchman has the quality that could fire them to the Premier League title.

Arsenal could certainly do with an out-and-out finisher to bolster their ranks, so you can understand the links between the Gunners and Benzema.

And with Jordan Henderson having left Al-Ettifaq to join Ajax, it remains to be seen whether other players in the Saudi Pro League could follow suit.

Benzema is one of the best forwards in the world, as shown by his Ballon d’Or win in 2022 and a multitude of trophies won during his career.

The ‘extraordinary‘ striker would no doubt give Arsenal the focal point in attack that they need to convert the many chances created by the rest of the team.

Although Al-Ittihad aren’t keen on losing Benzema, the player seems adamant on sealing a move away, at least for the remainder of the season.

This could be one to watch for Arsenal fans, even though the likes of Chelsea and Lyon are apparently also very eager on Benzema’s services.
