We’re 16 days into the January transfer window, and Arsenal haven’t done anything yet. However, they are being linked with several players, and Zirkzee is one of them. Now, Romano has claimed that a move is unlikely in the next two weeks.
Arsenal will have to make ‘crazy’ bid to sign Joshua Zirkzee
Arsenal have won just one of their last seven games in all competitions.
The common theme in all of those fixtures was that the Gunners were wasteful in front of goal. It almost seemed like they had forgotten how to score.
That has led to calls for Mikel Arteta and Edu to sign a new striker this month, and among the names linked with a move to Arsenal is Joshua Zirkzee of Bologna.
However, the Serie A side have made it clear – publicly and in private – that the 22-year-old striker will not be going anywhere this month.
Fabrizio Romano has claimed now that the only way Bologna’s stance will change is if a ‘crazy’ offer arrives in the next two weeks.
Responding to questions from Arsenal fans, Romano said on Kick: “Zirkzee is a special player in Italy. He is doing fantastic at Bologna, but Bologna want crazy money to let Zirkzee leave in the January transfer window.
“Bayern have a buy-back clause, which is €40 million, but Bayern also have a 50 per cent sell-on clause. So, in their case, it will be a €20 million fee for Joshua Zirkzee. But, this is something that Bayern will decide in the summer, not now.
“Bologna are not letting the player leave now, they’ve been very clear in public and in private. I think only a crazy, crazy proposal could change this story.
“Again, it’s for Arsenal, it’s for Chelsea, it’s for many other clubs, the problem is, for example also with Newcastle, is with Financial Fair Play. Financial Fair Play is creating an issue.”
Arsenal are unlikely to sign a new striker this month
If it wasn’t clear two weeks ago, it is now – Arsenal are unlikely to sign a new striker this month.
There aren’t any elite options available on the market at this moment in time, and even if someone prolific does pop up, he will cost an absolute fortune.
Financial Fair Play regulations will prohibit Arsenal from spending big this month because of their heavy expenditure last summer on the likes of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz.
A big signing seems out of the question this month – the only arrival we can see at Arsenal in the next two weeks is probably a loan deal.
