Arsenal have 'outstanding' forgotten man who could save Edu and Arteta millions

Arsenal may not need to dip into the summer transfer window for a midfielder thanks to the impressive progress being made by Albert Sambi Lokonga. The 24-year-old has come on leaps and bounds over the past few months whilst out on loan at Luton Town, and his sensational display against Manchester United over the weekend has highlighted his growth further.

Mikel Arteta’s side splashed the cash on Kai Havertz and Declan Rice ahead of the start of the season to inject further quality and power into their midfield ranks. The duo have since hit the ground running at the Emirates Stadium and helped their side assert themselves as title contenders once more.

Further midfield acquisitions are anticipated at the end of the campaign, with both Thomas Partey and Jorginho heavily linked with moves away from north London. Though Arsenal may not need to splash the cash markedly as they already have a top talent on their books in the shape of Lokonga.

The Belgium international has been in flying form for Luton so far this season, forming a solid partnership with Ross Barkley in the heart of Rob Edwards’ system. Lokonga has provided balance and stability in the centre of the park, whilst also improving his attacking influence significantly.

The former Anderlecht star earned plenty of praise for his performance against United on Sunday, despite the Hatters being beaten 2-1 following Rasmus Hojlund's early brace. Lokonga made a goal-saving challenge to deny Bruno Fernandes in the second half and made several precise passes to cut open the Red Devils’ defence in a well-rounded display which did not go unnoticed.

Gary Neville was keen to highlight the midfielder’s display when speaking to Sky Sports, saying: “He’s been really good, Lokonga. We talked before the game about Ross Barkley. But Lokonga’s been outstanding.”
