There is positive news when it comes to Fabio Vieira, who underwent groin surgery in November.

He has stepped up his recovery in recent weeks and it is believed he is pushing to be included in the squad against Porto, as he closes in on a return.

“He’s very close,” Arteta said last week. ‘He’s been training already for a few days with the team.

“So I think it’s very close. He’ll be back probably faster than we expected and he’s in a good place.”

Making his Premier League debut on the opening day of the season, Jurien Timber suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury and has been on the sidelines side.

There is optimism that the defender will return before the end of the campaign, and he was has been named in the club’s squad for Champions League knockout stages.
