The Gunners needed a striker in the winter window but chances to get a top one were limited and the likes of Ivan Toney were simply out of reach.
However, come the summer months, Toney is expected to be targeted again and it doesn’t look like Arsenal will stop with just the one attacker either.
Williams has been a revelation with Atletico Bilbao and at just 21, is seen as one of the very top talents coming out of La Liga.
And if Arsenal were to sign him, they’d be getting a player who has absolutely blistering pace as well.
Arsenal target Nico Williams is quicker than Gabriel Martinelli
To the naked eye, it is quite obvious that Williams is a player who possesses immense speed when he’s running down those wide areas.
But the stats don’t lie either and the winger is also quicker than two of Arsenal’s fastest attacking weapons.
According to Sportskeeda, Williams clocked a speed of 35.59km/hr when playing the World Cup just over a year ago.
Compare that to both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli – at 33.21 and 33.90 respectively – and Williams is over a kilometre an hour quicker than both young Gunners.
Indeed, the idea that Arsenal have all three of these players in the same team at once is quite a frightening prospect for fellow Premier League teams.
We’ve all seen just how effective Saka and Martinelli can be when they get going. And throwing Nico Williams into that mix would simply make Arsenal a scary force in the final third.
The Gunners, then, could do far worse than spend around £42.5m on Williams in the summer.
