Arsenal set to experience first taste of new Premier League rule against Newcastle tonight

Arsenal are set to experience the first taste of a new Premier League rule against Newcastle tonight.
Mikel Arteta welcomes Eddie Howe to the Emirates Stadium as the Gunners aim to extend their historic winning streak in 2024 to six Premier League victories.

So, what new Premier League rule will Arsenal experience? Let’s take a look…

Arsenal set to experience new Premier League rule
Well, the north Londoners kick off at 8pm tonight – which is an unusual time for a Saturday.

However – according to the Mirror – the unique fixture slot comes as a result of a new Premier League rule, which is designed to avoid short European turnarounds for those who competed in Europe midweek.

Arsenal suffered a 1-0 defeat to Porto on Wednesday night, and previously, clubs who have engaged in midweek European competition have been forced to play the early kick-off on Saturday.

That – of course – means less time for recovery and increases the risk of injuries, so the Premier League have now introduced this new rule to avoid such issues.

Jurgen Klopp – for one – will be pleased, as the German has quite often been vocal about his Liverpool side being forced to play the early slot on Saturday following a midweek adventure in Europe.

Newcastle have already experienced an 8pm kick-off on a Saturday twice this season.

The Magpies clashed with Manchester City at this time back in August – and also Manchester United in December.

However, it will be Arsenal’s first taste of the new Premier League rule, so hopefully, Arteta can prepare his side effectively despite Howe possessing more experience of the newly allocated slot.

Mikel Arteta can make more history
As aforesaid, Arsenal have already embarked on a historic winning streak in 2024.

No Arsenal side throughout history have won all of their opening five league games to kickstart a calendar year until now, and Arteta has the chance to extend that record to six if the Spaniard can defeat Newcastle
