Mikel Arteta’s men have picked up their form of late, most recently beating Nottingham Forest, which has lifted the mood in the camp.
But come the summer, Paul Merson wants Arsenal to sign former Chelsea academy star Dominic Solanke, who is thriving at Bournemouth – Here are the ins and outs of the winter transfer window.
The 26-year-old has scored 12 goals from 20 Premier League games this term and is battling among some of the Premier League’s best.
And if that form continues during the second half of the campaign, then Paul Merson feels he is worth pushing for if you are Arsenal, as he told The Transfer Show on Sky Sports (01/02/24 at 2:45 pm) – All you need to know about when the transfer window slams shut.
If Dominic Solanke can match his first-half performance during the second period of the 23/24 season, then he will easily hit 20 goals.
And not only will teams like Arsenal stand up and take notice, but he will probably be in with a chance of making the England cut for Euro 2024.
Dominic Solanke to Arsenal
“If Solanke keeps on doing what he is doing, if he finishes the back end like he started recently,” said Merson.
“He has that phase and he is right up there with the goalscorers, if he has that towards the back end of the season, then I would like someone like him. You have to bring in somebody who has played in this league.”
Dominic Solanke’s future
There was a lot of hype and expectations on Solanke’s shoulders when he was coming through at Chelsea, but he just couldn’t make the cut.
The hard-hitting striker proceeded to leave Stamford Bridge in 2017 and secure a move to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
But, once again, he struggled with one of the Premier League big boys and that move led him to Bournemouth.
It took a trip to the Championship, and a few seasons in England’s second tier, for Solanke to now prove his worth and it wouldn’t be a surprise if the big boys want him in the summer
