Few players in the Premier League are in better form right now than Bukayo Saka. The 22-year-old has now scored seven goals in his last five appearances in the top-flight.
By anyone’s standards, that is world-class form. But of course, that does not necessarily make someone world-class. And in the eyes of Rio Ferdinand, it seems, Saka is yet to reach that level.

It seems fair to note that Saka has not yet had the chance to prove himself in the knockout rounds in Europe. And this Arsenal side are still relative newcomers to the title race in the Premier League.
However, speaking on Wrighty’s House, Ian Wright has hit out at Ferdinand for creating a debate which was not needed, particularly over a topic which is so subjective.
“You know the whole thing about it, when Rio said it, it feels very clickbait-y, very banal. It’s so subjective. It’s just one of those it’s just about clicks in saying something like that. Because I can’t imagine what Bukayo would have gone through, because let me tell you something for a fact that will happen, he will have seen it, he will have heard it and they will have had to deal with it,” he said.

“If I’m him, I’m probably a little bit p—-d off about that. And I’d probably be a bit p—-d off with Rio about it for bringing it up like it is because it’s narrative of everything, especially when you listen to TNT. And so, it’s something now, I’d be very interested to see his relationship going on with Rio, who for me, let’s face it, one of the most decorated players, to come with that kind of conversation does not help. It’s doesn’t help. In that particular situation, I was very disappointed with that because it’s not needed.”
Response from Arsenal star has certainly been world-class
It is notable that there has already been so much talk about whether Saka is world-class since those comments emerged. And if you were being cynical, you would have to say that Ferdinand probably knew what he was doing when he made that claim on his own channel
Ultimately, it is valid to argue that it is too soon to put Saka in that category of world-class. But you cannot argue against those who do put the Arsenal man there.
And the way the England international has responded has been remarkable. Ferdinand made the original comments after the 6-0 win at West Ham. Saka has scored another three goals since then.
Maybe he is not world-class just yet. But Saka is definitely on his way at a rapid rate.
