'Keep an eye': Fabrizio Romano thinks £66m player could leave after links to Arsenal

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has now been discussing the future of a player who’s been linked with an Arsenal move this summer.

Mikel Arteta’s project is certainly moving in the right direction, and Arsenal seem to be making the most of each transfer window.

And whilst Edu Gaspar and his team were quiet in January, it doesn’t necessarily mean they weren’t successful.

It can be notoriously difficult to find value mid-season, and Arsenal will probably be pleased that they avoided any ill-advised spending.

In fact, with Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey still to return, who have amassed five Premier League appearances between them this season, it’ll feel like two new signings have arrived.

But with those injuries considered, Arsenal are still one or two players short, with another central defender needed next season.

And judging by recent reports, Bayern Munich’s Mattijs de Ligt could be a strong candidate for the role.

And when speaking on ‘The Here We Go Podcast’, Romano was convinced the Arsenal target will be on the move this summer.

Fabrizio Romano says Matthijs De Ligt could leave Bayern this summer amid Arsenal links
The journalist referred to some recent words from Bayern’s sporting director Christopher Freund, confirming de Ligt is currently on the sidelines by choice.

Romano: “I think it’s really important what the director of Bayern Munich said today, Christopher Freund while they were preparing for the game against Lazio.

“Because he confirmed that Matthijs de Ligt is not happy with the current situation.

Romano continued: “Lets see what’s going to happen there in the summer because there is interest from England and not only England, but for example Paris Saint-Germain tried to start a negotiation with Matthijs de Ligt in January.

“It was not possible because Bayern were not going to sell him in the January window.

“In the summer it could be different, so keep an eye on Matthijs de Ligt because his current situation at Bayern is not so easy.”

Of course, as Romano explains, this could present a big opportunity for Arsenal in the summer.

Arteta doesn’t currently have a suitable player to rotate with William Saliba at centre-back, given Ben White is needed on the right.

And when you compare the options Arsenal have to Manchester City, it’s clear that an addition is needed.

That being said, one Arsenal defender who left the club on loan has now lifted the lid on his tactical struggles.
