'Marcus Rashford would be excellent for Arsenal – if he sorts his private life out'

Emmanuel Petit has claimed that Manchester United's Marcus Rashford would be a great signing for Arsenal if he sorts his mentality out.
Following a 30-goal campaign last season, Rashford’s form this season has left a lot to be desired, and his off-field antics have not helped him. The 26-year-old has scored just five times so far this season and there are real concerns regarding his private life after his boozy behaviour in a Belfast nightclub last month.

Rashford was caught partying on an unsanctioned night out before calling in ‘ill’ for training the following morning – which saw him dropped from the squad to play Newport County in the FA Cup and fined two-weeks' wages. The England star has since returned to the United squad but talks that he could swap Old Trafford for a fresh start have been rife.

Speaking to Betway, Arsenal icon Petit claimed that Rashford would be a brilliant signing for Mikel Arteta’s side, but only if he can alter his mentality, he said: “Marcus Rashford could be an excellent option for Arsenal, definitely. My only question mark would be on his mind and where he is mentally. Last season, he played so well for weeks and weeks but this season it hasn’t been the same Marcus Rashford.

“I think he’s very sensitive and he must find a balance between his professional and private life - if he finds the balance he will be great again. We all know his qualities and skills, but I’m wondering mentally if he can reach the standards of where he should be.

“He needs help to perform more often and he needs serenity from his agents. I heard from France that he’s been through difficult times privately. I was going through the same thing as a player, I could never be in good form if I wasn’t right in my private life.”

Rashford seems to have won back his starting role under Erik ten Hag lately, with him starting the last six Premier League games – notching four goal contributions – as Alejandro Garnacho has nailed down the right-hand side. However, it still remains a crucial end to the season for Rashford as United look to chase down a Champions League spot.
