The likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid were less than convincing in Europe this week, and Arsenal have to be considered amongst the favourites for the competition, especially as they’ve gotten the better of reigning champions, Manchester City, twice already this term.
Speaking on the Stick to Football Podcast, Jamie Carragher has been discussing Arsenal’s Champions League hopes, and he has said that the Gunners do have a shot at glory in this competition this term, claiming that he’d fancy the north London club against both PSG and Bayern Munich if they were to meet this season.

Jamie Carragher says Arsenal would beat PSG or Bayern Munich
Carragher shared his verdict on this season’s Champions League and how it could pan out.
“I don’t think there anyone close in the Champions League. I actually think the team who could maybe have a chance is Arsenal. Because Arsenal haven’t won anything big yet this team and we think how good are they. But then you watch the Champions League and watch Bayern Munich, a big massive team. Arsenal are better. Arsenal would beat Bayern Munich. I think Arsenal would beat PSG. So I’m thinking who could stop City? And I think probably Arsenal. We know City would be massive favourites but I think Arsenal [are most likely to],” Carragher said.
Plenty to prove
Arsenal have been very impressive over the past 18 months, but they do still have plenty to prove at that sort of level.
Champions League games against top opposition are unlike anything else, and it’s been a long time since Arsenal played a game with those sorts of stakes.
The likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba and Declan Rice are all fantastic players, but none of them know what it’s like to play a huge Champions League knockout game like this.
