Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes that Mikel Arteta has it ‘easy’ with Arsenal heading into the final few months of the title race. The two former colleagues are set to see their sides battle it out at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday in what is one of the biggest games of the season so far.
Arsenal are currently top of the table on goal difference, with Liverpool level on points in second. City are then just one point away in third place, with the Premier League set up to be one of the most exciting title races in recent years.
With so much to play for, describing clashes between two of the three aforementioned outfits as ‘six-pointers’ somewhat undersells their importance. As a result, the pressure is on for all three teams to deliver – though Guardiola hinted that Arteta isn’t really feeling the heat as he is aiming to end Arsenal’s Premier League drought.
Speaking ahead of his side’s clash with Arsenal, the City boss said: “To fight for one title that you haven’t won for many years is like wow, it is easy. We have been here for many, many years - and we are still there. I have said it a 1000 million times, the biggest success of this club is that after many years still we are there - and people cannot imagine how difficult it is.
Mikel Arteta is hoping to guide his side to Premier League glory
“We are the benchmark for the new generations in this club because (what we have done) is really really good. I could not expect, honestly, being here with the problems we had this season, being in this position right now. But we want to extend it. We want to try and be here longer, but it's the most complicated thing.
“Just take a look at the biggest clubs, the biggest teams. Qualifying for the Champions League every season, the group stages, arriving in the latter stages of all competitions, playing semi-finals of the FA Cup. It’s really good.”
