'We'll see' - Arsenal given £89m transfer green light by Manchester United captain

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has backed Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres to succeed in the Premier League.
The Swede has been in sensational form since joining Sporting Lisbon from Coventry City last summer. A sensational hat-trick at the weekend took his tally to 36 across all competitions from 39 appearances.

Gyokeres’ goal streak has fired Sporting to top spot in the Primeira Liga and fueled speculation about a possible exit. It is understood that the 25-year-old has an £89million release clause in his Lisbon contract - putting European heavyweights on high alert.

Speaking after putting Boavista to the sword on Sunday, Gyokeres dismissed suggestions of leaving this summer. He told Swedish publication Fotbollskanalen: "I don't think much about the future. I want to win the league and the cup with Sporting. That's what I put all my energy into in the club team.

“It's clear that what I've done has been noticed, but it's not really my focus in everyday life. But of course, it's fun that I have fans who appreciate what I've done.

Tottenham 'ready to battle' Arsenal for former Leeds United star this summer
“We'll see this summer. It's not something I know about myself, what will happen. I enjoy Sporting extremely well and feel no stress about the summer coming quickly. Of course, it's fun. That I get appreciation and leave an impression."

Mikel Arteta is eyeing a new striker to bolster his frontline, with Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah struggling to carry the burden. Both players are handy options but lack the ruthlessness of an elite-level bagsman.

Man United skipper Fernandes, while not mentioning Arsenal, has vouched for Gyokeres when discussing players in the Portuguese leagues. He told A Bola: “There are naturally many players in good shape. Gyokeres is one of them (who can play in the Premier League). He has scored a lot of goals.”
