A story that Arteta is fed up with the recurrent injuries at left-back — Takehiro Tomiyasu and Oleksander Zinchenko are frequently on the treatment table — had started speculation that Arsenal would sign a left back this summer.
Left-backs Ferdi Kadioglu of Fenerbahce, Joao Cancelo of Manchester City, and Wendell of FC Porto have all been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks.
Timber the left back
Football Transfers refutes these reports. They unleash a bombshell: Oleksander Zinchenko may be sold. However, even if the Ukrainian leaves, the Gunners believe they have adequate left-back options.
Jakub Kiwior’s revival at left-back appears to have persuaded Arteta and his decision-makers that he is capable of filling in for the role. That said, FT understands that the Arsenal technical bench sees a fit Jurrien Timber as the man for their left-back position going forward.
Timber has been out of action since PL match day one due to an ACL injury. However, he is closing in on the recovery from injury.
“He’s doing very well; he’s back training. He’s not far off, but the thing is, that last step. I think he has a good chance [of playing again this season]. I don’t know the percentage, but he’s going to push it as far as he possibly can,” said Arteta of Timber’s road to recovery.
The £34 million 2023 recruit shone at left-back in the Community Shield and the 50 minutes he played against Forest on Match Day 1, so it’s hardly surprising that he’s regarded as ideal for the position.
