Trailing 2-1 with time running out of yesterday's Champions League quarter-final first leg with Bayern Munich, Trossard cooly slotted into the bottom left corner of the goal to ensure the Gunners will next week travel to Germany on level terms with their opponents.
The 29-year-old has been an excellent signing for Arsenal since arriving in north London last January for an initial fee of £21million from Brighton. Mikel Arteta's side were of course attempting to put together a deal worth in the region of £80m for Mykhailo Mudryk, though missed out after Chelsea swooped in to complete a transfer.
Moving for Trossard has proven to be a blessing in disguise for the Gunners, who have reaped the rewards of the versatile attacker on a number of occasions last season and this term. The Belgian star has 13 goals and two assists to his name in 2023/24 and often makes an impact when deployed as a substitute during matches.
This was the case once again on Tuesday evening, having made no mistake by firing past Manuel Neuer with a well-taken shot. Heaping praise on Trossard after the 2-2 draw with Bayern, Keown said: "It shows the strength of the squad and the manager has made the decision to make those changes.
"Jesus, we know how excellent he is in the Champions League and it was relentless from Arsenal. They kept going and going and look at this, he sits him down and then Trossard comes into that middle position and just floats in there. He’s done that so often for Arsenal. Mudryk has gone to Chelsea, instead they have gone for him, £21m. Where are you getting more value for money than him, by the way?"
Competing for a first-team place against the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli is no easy task, though Trossard made clear back in September he would be ready to impress whenever handed the opportunity to do so. He said: "I don’t know how the national coach feels about that [his role at Arsenal]. I am still convinced that I will play enough matches. I will be ready for the European Championship.
"We have a game every three days [at Arsenal], so it’s impossible to play with the same guys every time. It’s up to me to show myself when I get a chance."
