The ex-Spurs scout was not a fan of the way Arteta and his staff celebrated their side’s opener in the North London derby.
It was Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg who put the ball into his own net from a corner to give the Gunners an early lead en route to their eventual 3-2 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – was surprised by how the Arsenal boss and his set-piece coach reacted, considering the manner of the goal.
“I couldn’t believe the way Arteta and his coaching staff reacted to that opening goal,” King said.
“Running up and down the touchline and jumping about because Hojbjerg had put the ball into his own net, you don’t practice for things like that. You don’t need a set-piece specialist for that to happen.
“It was an unfortunate own goal which didn’t need to be over-celebrated.”
Tottenham must bounce back from North London derby disappointment against Arsenal
Spurs’ players, supporters, and Ange Postecoglou will have no doubt woken up on Monday morning hurting.
Whether or not Arteta and his staff over-celebrated or not, they still left with the three points, and nothing will change that.
Tottenham must now respond and ensure they finish the season strong with two big games to come this week. With a trip to Stamford Bridge and Anfield on the agenda within the next seven days, Spurs have an opportunity to make a statement and put the Arsenal defeat behind them.
