Liverpool are reportedly shocked by Luis Diaz’s request for a new Anfield contract. The winger, who has been linked with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks, has reportedly asked for an extension to his deal that would reflect his current form.
Diaz has been in superb form since the turn of the year, scoring five goals and providing three assists in his last 10 Premier League appearances. The Colombian was signed from Porto in January 2022 but has never extended his deal beyond the initial five-and-a-half-year agreement.
That has reportedly prompted the 27-year-old to request a new contract via his agent. Diaz still has three years to run on his current deal but is claimed to want terms that reflect his current form.
According to HITC, that demand has ‘shocked’ Liverpool who have pointed out that there is plenty of time remaining on his contract. The report adds that the club’s hierarchy are not ‘overly impressed’ with the timing of the request, or that Diaz has been linked with a transfer in recent weeks.

Despite that, Liverpool are reportedly open to talks over an extension with one of their key players. They have informed the player’s representatives that the matter will be revisited in the summer and that it is not a priority at the moment.
The situation is being dealt with by FSG’s new CEO of Football Michael Edwards, who has returned to Anfield two years after quitting as sporting director. In his new role, Edwards will work under the club’s owners rather than overseeing all football matters at Liverpool.
Richard Hughes will take on Edwards’s previous job title having worked in a similar position at Premier League rivals Bournemouth. Hughes is highly rated by Edwards and his impending arrival was widely reported to have been key to FSG persuading Edwards to return.
