Tottenham Hotspur are currently pushing for a top-four finish and their win over Nottingham Forest last evening was a major boost in their pursuit of Champions League football.
Micky van de Ven was a standout performer for Spurs as they won 3-1 at home. The Dutch centre-back scored in the second half to give his team the lead but his defensive performance is what resulted in praises from the former Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp.
The 50-year-old praised Van de Ven for his defensive display and even said the £34 million summer signing could emulate what Liverpool mainstay Virgil van Dijk has done in his career. He even said that the 22-year-old centre-back is as good as Arsenal star William Saliba who has been the talk of the town for his performances at the heart of the Arsenal defence.
Redknapp while talking on Sky Sports, said: “Arsenal fans look at Saliba who is a fantastic young defender as well but I think this guy is equally as good, I think he’s got everything going for him. If he stays injury-free, there’s no reason why he can’t almost emulate what Virgil van Dijk’s done.
“When Van Dijk was this age he wasn’t putting in these sorts of performances. As long as he doesn’t get too many injuries cos that can affect the hamstrings and everything but he’s a top player, he really is.”
